Fujitsu launches 300GB SATA laptop drive
By Rene Millman,
Fujitsu has launched what it claims is the world's first 300GB 2.5" hard disk drive for laptops.
The new drive, called MHX2300BT, is based on perpendicular magnetic recording technology, which is essential in achieving the increased capacity per platter.
The company said among the additional benefits of the new hard drive were low power consumption at 1.6W as well as high shock tolerance and near-silent operation.
There are two drives launched one with storage capacities of 250GB and the other at 300GB. Both drives have a 4,200RPM rotational speed and a SATA 2.5 and ATA-8 interface. These have native command queuing, DIPM and HIPM support, staggered spin-up & active LED support and hot plug provision.
The drives also boast an average track-to-track seek time of 1.5ms; a maximum host transfer rate of 150MB/s; and with a high operating shock tolerance of 300G (2ms).
The drives will be available in the first quarter of next year.
