Fujitsu Siemens unveils "My very first San"
By Rene Millman,
Mid-sized companies that don't know too much about storage can now rest easy as Fujitsu Siemens Computers has launched a new range of storage products under the banner "My very first SAN".
Billed as a bundle of market-leading, pre-tested components, "My very first SAN" consists of the new FibreCAT SX storage system (SX60 or SX80) plus popular SAN switches from Brocade and host bus adapters from Emulex.
A number of different configurations are offered by the bundle so customers setting up their first SAN can do so easily and flexibly according to storage requirements.
"We believe that first-time users do not want to sacrifice quality to get the cost savings that bundles typically provide, so we commend Fujitsu Siemens Computers for its specific focus on best-in-class, and in bundling quality products from Emulex and Brocade," said Joyce Becknell, Research Director EMEA at analysts Sageza Group.
The FibreCAT SX60 and SX80 models are based on the modern storage technology, including redundant components and Fibre Channel technology with data transfer rates of up to 4Gbps. Technologies such as FibreCap and FibreCache also provide improved data protection and availability, and outstanding performance.
"Nowadays, companies of all sizes have good reasons for setting up a SAN, as this is an optimum solution for the efficient storage of growing volumes of data, and the consolidation of their storage environment. Nevertheless, we have found that many companies are still reluctant to convert their storage infrastructure accordingly," said Dr. Helmut Beck, Vice President Storage Business at Fujitsu Siemens Computers.
He added that "My very first SAN" offered mid-sized companies "easy, inexpensive way to start". The company did not indicate whether the products came in brightly coloured boxes.
