Remote working benefits work/life balance
By Rene Millman,
Half of teleworkers believe that remote working gives them a better balance between work and home life, according to a new study.
While 51 per cent of mobile worker thought they had a better balance in their lives between work and home, the survey, carried out by mobile management company iAnywhere, also found that 71 per cent of respondents were expected to answer phone calls and emails outside of normal office hours. Only eight per cent turned off office mobile phones at the end of the work day.
The survey also found that email was the main driving force for deploying mobile devices in the enterprise (50 per cent). Calendaring came in second (28 per cent), third was job scheduling (14 per cent).
Windows Mobile was the most commonly used platform for mobile devices, with a 66 per cent share of respondents, followed by Symbian (22 per cent), Palm (six per cent) and Linux (one per cent).
But a quarter of people felt that the objectives for a company deployment of mobile devices were not clearly explained to them. 14 per cent said they were not aware of any mobile device objectives.
"We were surprised to see how many companies still have no clear plan and objectives in place for their mobility deployments," said Mike Oliver, marketing manager for iAnywhere.
He said that mobile devices offer so much more than simply sending and receiving email.
"Implementing intelligent business applications on mobile devices within an organisation enables workers to transact with their company throughout the working day, providing a tangible increase in productivity," said Oliver.
