3GSM: Nokia unveils new business offerings

The mobile giant makes a big splash at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona by announcing not one, but six new devices to keep both business users and consumers happy.

Nokia today took the wraps of six new products, three aimed at a business audience and three designed for the consumer market.

Speaking at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, the company's chief executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo claimed that the new offerings were part of its commitment to "lead the next phase of mobility."

The company unveiled three Eseries devices aimed solely at business professionals, in the form of the E65 slider, the slim line E61i e-mailer and an updated version of its popular E90 Communicator phone.

The former will be available during the first quarter of this year, with the E61i following in the second quarter. The revamped E90 is expected to start shipping in the second quarter with volume deliveries in the third quarter.

Each of the new offerings boasts high-quality camera functionality and makes use of 3G and wireless LAN technologies in addition to running the Symbian-based S60 software platform.

"The worlds of mobility and the internet are merging, but as an industry we are still only scratching the surface of the possibilities this offers," said Kallasvuo.

"Nokia is driving the change, taking a lead in harnessing this new connectivity in ways that will transform how we use mobile devices for work and in our personal lives. The products we are launching today reflect some key areas that we believe will become part of this new connected life and where we will start to see much more widespread adoption."

In addition to expanding its device portfolio, Nokia also used the congress as an opportunity to launch Intellisync Mobile Suite 8.0 mobileware, a flexible platform which provides mobile e-mail, mobile file and data synchronisation and high levels of security and device management capabilities to the Eseries range in addition to more than 100 other devices.
