GNER looks to web ticketing to drive down costs
By Maggie Holland,
GNER is launching a new web-based ticketing system designed to drive more internet sales to reduce costs and make traveling by train an easier and speedier experience for the 17 million-plus passengers who use its services each year.
The east coast train operator has already enjoyed some success with its current website, which conducts a number of advanced travel transactions, but GNER now wants to try and garner additional sales from walk-up, telesales and corporate customers.
The new service, which will be developed and supported by Atos Origin, will be intuitive and easy to use and is scheduled to launch later this year.
GNER plans to also use the system as a customer relationship management (CRM) tool to analyse buying patterns and sales trends to aid future marketing and promotional activities.
In addition, the new service will support print at home and mobile ticketing efforts.
"The internet is now a very important channel through which we sell tickets and with this new web-based system, we are providing our passengers with a fast, secure and easy way to purchase tickets online," said Emma Passey, GNER's e-commerce manager.
"Atos Origin has demonstrated an excellent solution and a strong understanding of our industry to ensure that this service meets our needs today and in the future."
