Fujitsu introduces 160GB laptop hard drive
By Rene Millman,
Disk drive company Fujitsu has launched what it claims is the world's fastest laptop drive with 160GB of storage.
The new MHW2160BJ is a 3Gbit/sec Serial ATA 7,200rpm 2.5-inch hard disk aimed at high-performance laptop computers. The company claims that the disk has data transmission speeds of 300MB/sec, which it said was the fastest in the industry. It has read and write speeds of 10.5ms and 12.5ms respectively.
Fujitsu said the drives make very little noise when idle recording a noise level of 2.5 decibels. It also offers low-power consumption, operating at 2.3 watts or less when reading or writing.
The company reckons that laptop users want storage capacities on a par with desktop users. The disks are also RoHS compliant, meaning they won't pollute the environment too much.
The new drives will be available worldwide at the end of May, in 80 GB, 120 GB, and 160 GB capacities.
