    Fujitsu unveils flash disk-based laptops

New laptops offer faster boot times, improved performance and higher reliability.

Computer manufacturer Fujitsu unveiled its first laptops to use solid state disk drives instead of traditional hard drives options.

The pen-enabled Lifebook P1610 and LifeBook B6210 ultra-portable notebooks will be offered to customers with an option to ditch normal hard disks for flash-based drives. As reported by IT PRO, memory firms SanDisk and Super Talent announced replacements for hard drives using Nand memory.

The LifeBook P1610, weighing in at 1kg, is a convertible touch screen notebook and the 1.45kg LifeBook B6210, a touch screen notebook. Both will be offered with two flash-based SSD configurations, 16GB or 32GB.

The company said solid state disks offered lower power consumption, higher reliability, and improved performance.

The company also said that using flash memory would decrease start-up times for the laptops. It said that the disks used in the computers read two times faster and write up to 60 per cent faster than other hard drives. And the laptops would generate no heat be half as heavy as laptops using normal hard drives.
