Threshers signs £8 million IT outsourcing deal

Drinks retailer signs five-year contract with Xansa to outsource IT support and operations, saving £1 million a year.

By Nicole Kobie, 20 Mar 2007 at 15:16

Off-licence chain Threshers is set to save £1 million pounds a year after outsourcing the support of its central IT systems to technology firm Xansa in a five-year, £8 million deal.

The contract, which starts in May, will see Xansa providing applications management and IT operations for parent company Thresher Group while working with current hosting provider BSG and IT support provider Phoenix to deliver services.

"This contract will allow us to drastically reduce the total cost of ownership of our IT infrastructure with provision for a flexible pricing model based on our business metrics," said Harvey Ainley, chief financial officer of Thresher Group.

Xansa will provide support for the 300 staff at the Thresher Group head office in Welwyn Garden City, although first line IT support will be handled in India.

"As technology continues to automate many business services, retailers are increasingly seeing the benefits of moving parts of their infrastructure offshore," said David Leigh, strategy director at Xansa.

Ainley said Thresher Group chose Xansa over other providers because of its expertise in offshore outsourcing.
