Imation goes on removable storage odyssey
By Rene Millman,
Data storage company Imation has launched removable hard drives aimed at entry-level users.
The Odyssey removable hard disc cartridges sport a 2.5-inch Sata drive and will be available in 40GB, 80GB and 120GB capacities. While currently available to use in external docking stations, the company plans to launch internal version in the future that will fit into 5.25-inch half-height or 3.5-inch full-height and slim line drive bays.
The cartridges are designed to take the impact of being dropped from a metre height onto a solid surface and incorporate electrostatic discharge (ESD) to prevent data loss caused by static build-up.
The external docking station also come with a USB 2.0 interface, a cartridge and EMC Retrospect backup software that features password protection and 256-bit AES encryption.
