IT salaries jump 5.5 per cent

Average pay packets for technology staff in the UK has grown to £32,965 in the past year.

Salaries have jumped by 5.5 per cent for permanent IT staff in the UK over the past year, according to a study by recruitment firm CV Screen.

The average salary across 30,000 advertised IT jobs in the first quarter of 2007 was £32,965, around £9,000 above the UK national average wage.

"With the IT sector experiencing a period of continual growth, we have been experiencing especially high demand for IT professionals over the last year," said Matthew Iveson, managing director of CV Screen, said in a statement. "During the same period there has also been a shortage of candidates seeking new roles and the net result is upward pressure on salaries."

The study found a high demand - and high salaries - for IT professionals with Java, .Net, SAP and network support skills.

"The outlook for 2007 is equally buoyant and employers need to ensure they are accurately benchmarking their IT salaries or risk losing their IT staff," he said.
