Microsoft reveals name of new Windows Server

Microsoft settles on imaginatively titled Windows Server 2008 to replace Windows Server 2003.

By Rene Millman, 15 May 2007 at 10:53

Microsoft has let slip the name of its next server operating system to replace Windows Server 2003 on one if its French websites.

The website mistakenly revealed the name of its forthcoming Windows Server 2008 last week. The site was publicising the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) in Los Angeles where it was to unveil the name of the new server OS. It has since then removed all references to the product.

The software is due out later on this year. Up until now the product has only been known by its codename "Longhorn".
