Fujitsu launches slimline 250GB 2.5-inch hard drive

New low profile hard disk from Fujitsu to launch in next few months.

By Rene Millman, 15 May 2007 at 13:58

Fujitsu has unveiled a new range of laptop drives with storage capacities of up to 250GB.

The new MHY2 BH series of 2.5-inch hard disk drives will start retailing within the next few months and has a slim 9.5mm thin profile.

It manages to pack 250GB into the slim profile by using perpendicular magnetic recording technology.

The drives are quoted with an idle acoustic noise level of 24 decibels, and low power consumption, operating at 1.9 watts or less when reading or writing data.

The company last month announced it was ceasing development of 1.8-inch hard drives to concentrate more on solid state disks.

The price of the drive has not yet been disclosed. The company believed it will sell 10m slimline drives by March 2008.
