    Work Wise Week

IT PRO's coverage of Work Wise Week 2007 and National Work From Home Day, along with our ongoing campaign calling for more technology-enabled flexible working in UK businesses.

By IT PRO Staff, 15 May 2007 at 17:50

Work Wise Week will run from Wednesday May 16th to Tuesday May 22nd, with the aim of encouraging smarter working practices for the benefit of business, employees and the country as a whole.

Also taking place within the week will be National Work From Home Day on Friday May 18th, when many UK businesses will be encouraging those members of staff for whom it is sensible and beneficial to work from home. Home working has many obvious benefits, from the reduced environmental impact of saving a return journey to work to productivity and life balance benefits of being able to shape work and home life around each other to maximise both.

Smarter working can take a number of forms, some very simple, with few cost implications, through to full organisation-wide workflow reviews. It can apply to any business or organisation, from large multinational companies and the public sector right down to small business and the self-employed.

Technology has an important role to play in facilitating smarter working practices. Although the latest advances in mobile technology and the continuing widespread growth in the adoption of broadband is enabling these practices to be implemented, smarter working is not just about technology: it is also about changing culture, changing the way people work and giving them the skills to work smarter.

IT PRO is running a series of articles examining various aspects of flexible working, as well as outlining our support for flexible working in UK businesses:
