EMC acquires authentication company Verid
By Rene Millman,
Storage and IT security company EMC has acquired identity authentication company Verid for an undisclosed sum. The purchase will help EMC bolster its security portfolio through its RSA Security subsidiary.
The company had been selling Verid's products as part of RSA's Adaptive Authenication since last September. According to Chris Young, vice president of Consumer and Access Solutions at RSA, the acquisition of the Florida-based company will move RSA further into preliminary vetting and verification stages of new user relationships in a variety of markets.
"Due to our pre-existing partnership with Verid, we have already made great progress in combining knowledge-based authentication capabilities into the RSA Adaptive Authentication solution," he said.
Verid sells a "knowledge-based" authentication product that quizzes users with hard-to-answer questions to determine a user's identity. The product will be integrated into RSA's eFraudNetwork community within the year.
Verid will stay as a separate product line within RSA for the remainder of this year.
