Lentjes UK replaces tape with online backup
By Rene Millman,
UK environmental firm Lentjes UK has deployed a remote backup solution to keep important company and client data secured off-site.
The company, that incinerates waste from water companies, has used Iron Mountain's LiveVault online data backup to store plans, drawings, designs and contracts on remote servers based in temporary offices on its construction sites at an offsite data centre run by Iron Mountain.
"Our remote offices are at risk of data loss due to their temporary nature - busy construction sites do not have the protection of a more permanent location," said Lentjes UK's IT manager, Georgette Banham.
The company, formerly known as Lurgi (UK), used to use a tape-based backup system but decided to go for an online product as there were few staff on site to make sure backups were being carried out correctly.
"There's too much scope for human and technical error when it comes to tape backup and we needed a solution that would ensure that our remote server data was secure," said Banham. "In addition, it has to be easy and quick to restore in the case of a loss so that it doesn't cause any delay to the work of our specialists on site."
Nick Cater, head of Northern Europe at Iron Mountain Digital said that for companies operating in difficult circumstance, the risk of data loss increased. "Being able to trust that data is being backed up without fail and is easily available in the event of a data loss incident contributes to the continued smooth running of the company's construction projects," he said.
