A North Wales police officer is being investigated for misusing a computer system and releasing data, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has said.

Following the allegations, the officer was arrested, released on bail and suspended from active duty.

"Very serious allegations have been made against a serving police officer," said IPCC commissioner Tom Davies in a statement. "I have decided the investigation needs independent oversight and this will be managed on my behalf by an IPCC investigator."

No more information was released because of the potential for legal proceedings, the statement said.
