Fujitsu launches 300GB external hard drive
By Rene Millman,
Fujitsu has unveiled what it claims is the world's highest capacity 2.5inch external hard disk drive.
Its new drive boasts 300GB of storage and an integrated USB cable. The drive is bus powered, so doesn't require a separate power supply to get it working.
As well as this, the drive comes bundled with a security application, called Cryptainer, which supports AES 256-bit and Blowfish 448-bit encryption.
Fujistu has also bundled a couple of backup applications. It comes with Apricorn's EZ Gig II for Windows. This allows users to clone an image of their system so it can be restored should disaster strike. There is also Second Copy 2000 included with the drive which coordinates file sharing between multiple computers.
"We are proud to launch the world's highest capacity 2.5" External HDD product into the marketplace at a time when consumers are demanding more storage, compact designs, and features that advance the level of data security," said Lorne Wilson, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Fujitsu Computer Products.
The Fujitsu External Hard Disk Drive will be available for $229 (£115) in the third quarter of this year. A 120GB version will also be available at the same time for $129 (£65).
