    WiebeTech launches rugged storage devices

New rugged external disk drives available in 200GB and 250GB varieties.

WiebeTech has launched a range of new rugged external storage devices with up to 250GB of disk space.

The company's new ToughTech Mini and ToughTech XE are aimed at users in harsh environments where such devices need to withstand being dropped or manhandled.

The ToughTech mini links up to a computer via either a USB 2.0 or FireWire 400 or 800 port, while the XE version has an eSATA USB 2.0 combo port. Both devices measure 13cm by 8cm by 2cm.

Both storage drives support Windows, OS X and Linux. The company said that if the devices use FireWire, drives can be daisy-chained.

One of the company's distributors said that users are more reliant on external storage than ever before.

"Whether it is used for backing up data to take off-site, or storing data generated on the move, like video or photography, this extra capacity and speed will be very welcome," said AM Micro managing director Steve Hawkins.

The ToughTech Mini is available in two capacities starting at £249.95, while the ToughTech XE Mini starts at £254.95.
