    Quarter of jobs filled online

Survey by Jobcentre Plus shows more and more companies are turning to the web to find new employees.

By Nicole Kobie, 19 Jul 2007 at 16:24

A quarter of job vacancies are filled online, according to a survey by Jobcentre Plus.

The survey of 4,500 employers showed that the proportion of overall job vacancies being advertised online increased to 16 per cent from 12 per cent in 2004, with 25 per cent of all filled job vacancies advertised online.

One in eight employers said they used job search websites to look for candidates in the past year. The South East and London were the regions most likely to use online recruitment methods, the study found.

"It is encouraging to see employers using services such as our website and the Employer Direct Online service, which gives employers complete control of the recruitment process from advertising to appointment," said Lesley Strathie, chief executive of Jobcentre Plus, in a statement. "That is growing at a rapid pace and we expect that trend to continue."

The Jobcentre website had a record 6.6 million searches by 2.2 million individuals in a single week in June this year.
