BA teams up with BT to monitor cargo
By Maggie Holland,
British Airways World Cargo (BAWC) is implementing BT's route management service (RMS) to help plan, track and analyse performance of its consignments throughout its global supply chain spanning 200 destinations in more than 80 countries.
Using the technology BAWC will be able to develop a route map for each shipment by combining booking information, airline schedules and parameters defined by the company itself, before tracking the progress of cargo such as freight, mail and courier traffic and creating detailed reports to help measure actual performance against anticipated deliverables.
The RMS carries out tracks activity against pre-set standards that conform to the quality requirements of the IATA Cargo 2000 Data Management Platform (CDMP). The system uses real-time web-based reporting tools and graphical reports to clearly identify actual service levels against those expected.
"Air freight volumes are expected to increase significantly in line with world trade over the next decade and the air logistics industry needs to work smarter and more cost-effectively," said Phil Jones, BAWC's information systems manager.
"The exchange of accurate and timely information is vital to ensure we can meet the growing requirements of our global customers and BT RMS will enable us to meet these demands."
