Dell snaps up ASAP for $340 million

Dell this week announced plans to buy ASAP Software for $340 million (167 million) in a move that will boost the former's aims of helping customers reduce the complexity surrounding software licensing and management, according to the company.

"Merging Dell's software business with ASAP is part of our effort to re-invent and simplify the way our customers get access to IT," he said. "After the acquisition is completed, our customers will have one of the world's leading software solutions providers as a single point of expertise and accountability for software licensing, compliance, renewal and asset management."

"Both ASAP and Dell customers will benefit. We will continue to provide you with a broad IT solution, including IT asset management, software licensing, and related products and services," Paul Jarvie, ASAP's president told customers in a letter posted on the company's website.

"When the acquisition is complete, you will be served by one of the leading software solutions providers in the world, giving you a single point of expertise and accountability."
