Civica lands £50 million school IT deals
By Nicole Kobie,
Civica has agreed contracts with Sheffield and Essex educational bodies worth nearly £50 million over the next decade, the services provider has said.
Sheffield City Council's Building Schools for the Future Programme has signed up Civica as an ICT partner for a three phase, nine-year contract worth £45 million. The firm will deliver managed services, including a data centre and other ICT infrastructure for nine schools in the first two phases.
And Essex County Council is set to pay £3.3 million over three years to Civica for a county-wide learning platform, which will improve communications and resources, letting students and staff share information and collaborate.
"We are delighted to have the opportunity to work in partnership with both the Sheffield LEP [local education partnership] and with Essex County Council to help deliver their vision for schools," said Simon Downing, Civica's chief executive, in a statement. "We believe both programmes have the potential to transform the educational environment for the benefit of students, teachers, schools and parents and we look forward to working together to provide a modern foundation for learning and collaboration."
