Microsoft plans nine patches next Tuesday

Administrators face bumper patching period.

By Miya Knights, 10 Aug 2007 at 15:35

Microsoft plans to release nine sets of security patches next week, promising a busy time for system administrators.

The release will include six critical updates for Windows, Office, Internet Explorer and its Visual Basic development software and come as part of its regular monthly security patching programme.

Other, less serious updates included in next Tuesday's release are for Windows, Windows Vista and Microsoft's Virtual PC and Virtual Server software, Microsoft said in a note on its website.

It also said it would be releasing an updated version of the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool on Windows Update, Microsoft Update, Windows Server Update Services and the Download Centre.

Having released six security updates in July, now means Microsoft has issued an average of seven patches per month this year, giving systems administrators plenty to keep them busy.
