    RSA acquires Tablus

Acquisition will build out data protection and compliance portfolio.

By Miya Knights, 10 Aug 2007 at 16:01

EMC's security unit, RSA has announced plans to acquire data leak protection vendor Tablus.

Tablus sells its Content Sentinel software to monitor computers to identify when they are being used to leak sensitive information and rounds out a portfolio of products for demonstrating compliance with regulations like Sarbanes Oxley.

Art Coviello, EMC executive vice president and president of RSA said the acquisition would help the company build out its security portfolio in the area of data protection in response to growing IT director concerns following high-profile leaks.

"The hard reality of information security is that you cannot secure what you cannot manage, and you cannot manage what you cannot find," said Coviello. "Once completed, this acquisition will significantly expand our ability to help organisations of all sizes truly secure their data - and accelerate our mission to bring information-centric security to life."

Tablus is based in California and RSA, who declined to disclose financial details of the deal, said it expected to finalise its acquisition by year-end.

RSA competitors, McAfee and Websense have also recently been on acquisition sprees in this area with the former buying Israel-based Onigma for $20 million (£9.9 million) late last year. Websense bought PortAuthority, also based in Israel in January this year.
