Enfield e-recruitment cuts hire time to five weeks

The London Borough of Enfield's new recruitment centre, which uses StepStone's i-Grasp, has cut the average time it takes to hire someone to just five weeks - well below the self-imposed 10 weeks in their service level agreement.

Assistant head of human resources Adrian Kerr said: "As e-recruitment formed a critical component of our strategy, our expectations for i-Grasp were high - and it didn't disappoint.... Not only have we been able to transform our candidates' experience, we have also been able to make a real contribution to the council's value for money initiative."

He added: "Our most frequently-announced vacancies are for social workers and estate managers, so there was some initial concern that focusing purely on online advertising would unfairly exclude many capable candidates. In fact, we found that if anything, the candidates sourced online are more proactive and motivated than those we'd seen previously."

Enfield recruits some 200 people annually.

Kent Police join local IT system

The Kent police force has signed up to Kent Connects, a local public sector technology partnership.

Kent Police's systems manager, Mick Shipway, said: "Kent Police is just one of a number of local public sector organisations, all maintaining separate records and systems behind the scenes, and often doing remarkably similar things. Kent Connects offers us the potential to cut down on administration so we can focus our resources where they're most needed. We'll also benefit from Kent Connects' greater buying power."

Kent and Medway councils, as well as Kent Fire and Rescue, are already part of the Kent Connects group.

South Wales Police information management system implemented

IT services firm Atos Origin has announced it has implemented a new information management system for the South Wales Police, which will allow them to find information across business areas more easily.

Chief Superintendent Richard Lewis, of South Wales Police said: "Working in partnership with Atos Origin, we have reliably transferred years of key intelligence information from a variety of legacy systems and now have access to one, reliable and up-to-date intelligence source. It will undoubtedly prove itself to be invaluable in the fight against crime as well as substantially reducing the effort involved in performance management reporting."

The transfer from the previous system to the new one meant Atos Origin had to clean and backup the data before converting it. Some 23,000 duplicate entries were found in the older system, the firm said.

New management IT for Leeds NHS

Leeds NHS Primary Care Trust - one of the biggest in the country, with an annual budget of a billion pounds - is set to use Actuate Performancesoft Views to manage its performance data, including the government-mandated Annual Health Check.
