EasyJet outsources network infrastructure
By Miya Knights,
Budget airline easyJet has deployed new LAN infrastructure and voice over IP (VoIP) telephony systems as part of a network outsourcing deal.
The budget airline carried out the migration to new network services provided by Alfred McAlpine IT services, as part of a move to new 30,000 sq ft corporate headquarters at Luton Airport.
The work formed part of a deal to migrate easyJet's existing telephony and data services to the new building alongside a five-year IP voice and data managed service across easyJet's entire Luton campus. A wireless LAN is also being implemented at the new headquarters to give easyJet employees greater flexibility within the building.
Bill Codd, easyJet IT service delivery manager said: "One of the key principles of the easyJet business is to be innovative and use the latest technology to ensure efficiency throughout all of its processes. It required low-cost, robust, high availability, future-proofing systems to support the company now and to carry it forward as new technology is developed."
He also said a key part of the deal was ensuring the IT networking part of the move provided a smooth migration process. "Due to the nature of our business and working in such a fast-paced service industry, it was crucial that this was a smooth transition - for both the company and our customers," said Codd.
"Alfred McAlpine IT Services successfully handled the migration of 400 users, over a four day period, to the new facility without any outage to the service, which is a great result."
