Reuters outsources to Fujitsu
By Miya Knights,
Reuters, the financial data and news company has signed a $1 billion (£500 million), 10-year deal with Fujitsu Services to outsource nearly its entire internal IT operations and support infrastructure.
The contract will see some 300 Reuters IT staff and 200 contractors transfer to the outsourcer from around the world and provide IT infrastructure services and support for Reuters' 17,500 employees, spread across more than 100 countries.
From next week, Fujitsu Services will host the new Reuters IT infrastructure from its own global data centres to improve the end-using IT experience wherever staff are located in addition to delivering productivity enhancements.
"This partnership will allow Reuters to accelerate the development of our internal IT services, giving us greater flexibility to respond to the changing needs of our business divisions," said David Lister, Reuters' chief information officer (CIO). "It will provide technology appropriate to the needs of our people wherever they are working around the world."
A Reuters spokeswoman told IT PRO the company expects to save 20 to 30 per cent on its average, annual IT costs, while also freeing internal resources to allow it to concentrate on its core business and customers.
Reuters is also currently the subject of a £8.7-billion takeover bid yet to be finalised from Canada's specialist information provider, Thomson Corporation.
