Microsoft details four updates for Patch Tuesday
By Rene Millman,
Microsoft announced four patches today, one marked critical, as part of its monthly Patch Tuesday update cycle in September.
The critical flaw affects computers running Windows 2000 SP4 and according to its monthly security bulletin, the exploit can allow hackers to execute code on a remote system.
Two other patches, rated important, cover bugs in Visual Studio, MSN Messenger and Windows Live Messenger that could allow code to be run on remote machines.
One other patch covers a flaw in Windows Services for Unix and the subsystem for Unix-based applications, Windows and SharePoint Server. This fix was rated as important.
As reported by IT PRO, Microsoft issued fixes for 14 flaws in its products with nine patches last month, while July's patch cycle covered six patches for 11 vulnerabilities.
