Law Society of Scotland get spam filter
By Miya Knights,
The governing body for Scottish solicitors is reducing its risk of exposure to security threats through email with new spam filtering technology.
The Law Society of Scotland has adopted web-based email management services in order to help protect its team of 140 from spam and viruses.
Richard MacLennan, IT manager for the Law Society of Scotland said the existing system had been coping, but it was felt extra protection was needed to manage the growing volumes of incoming emails.
He said: "The Email Systems service operates in real time and gives us the reassurance that the majority of unwanted incoming mail will be dealt with before it hits us."
During the course of a trial, the service filtered more than 830,000 messages, 684,000 thousand of which were filtered out as either spam or viruses.
The new service from provider Email Systems works in tandem with the Society's legacy security software to add an extra layer of assurance that the sensitive information exchanged over email is secure from malicious threats.
And staff benefit from the added protection the service provides, while being unaware of its running in the background.
MacLennan said: "Another major benefit for us is that our team doesn't have to manage or update the service in order for it to be effective - a real bonus in terms of time."
