Lotus Symphony surpasses 100,000 download milestone
By Maggie Holland,
IBM is celebrating the success of its latest brainchild, Lotus Symphony, which has been downloaded by more than 100,000 users in the first week since its official launch.
The free office productivity software has proved a hit with both business users and consumers alike, helping to give IBM a record download figure that beats that previously held by Lotus Notes - a product which has now grown in popularity to reach 135 million licensed users.
The community website designed as a forum for people to give feedback on the beta software has received more than one million visitors since the product's beta launch on 18 September.
"There is an evolution taking place in the way documents are being used for collaboration," said Mike Rhodin, general manager for IBM's collaboration/Lotus software. "Millions are seeing it. It's more than a free download. This tidal wave of adoption is creating an independent mass of users accustomed to open documents and poised to benefit from the innovative new capabilities they will soon afford."
