BT's Green to head up LogicaCMG

The company's current chief executive of strategy and operations plans to leave for a new leadership role at LogicaCMG next year.

Less than six months after BT announced the second phase of its ambitious transformation plan, the man charged with heading the company's reorganised business units is jumping ship to a competitor.

Andy Green, BT's current chief executive of group strategy and operations, and responsible for the BT Design and BT Operate units, is to join LogicaCMG at the beginning of next year to take up the role of chief executive.

Green has been with the company for more than 20 years, helping to transform it from a UK telco into a global business with a mammoth services arm.

"Andy has made a tremendous contribution to BT. He has led a remarkable turnaround in our global business, and helped set the company on its current course of profitable growth," said Ben Verwaayen, BT's chief executive.

"We have all benefited from his commitment and his vision. I am sure he will be an outstanding chief executive of LogicaCMG. Andy leaves with our best wishes for the future."

David Tyler, LogicaCMG's chairman-designate, added: "Andy Green is the ideal person to become chief executive of LogicaCMG. He is an experienced and widely respected leader in business services and has helped to create significant value for BT's shareholders over many years... I believe that this is a very exciting appointment for all of us at LogicaCMG. Andy has the strategic vision, operational strength and the international perspective to improve the business significantly and drive value for shareholders."

BT will confirm the exact date when Green will step down from its board "in due course."
