    Samsung moves into GPS-equipped phones

Demand for all-in-one devices capable of making calls as well as offering travel directions sees GPS integrated into Samsung handset.

By Reuters, 17 Oct 2007 at 08:49

Mobile phone maker Samsung has announced it will launch its first-ever phone incorporating Global Positioning System (GPS) hardware.

The phone - called the i550 - will use the Symbian operating system and be available in Europe from next month.

Samsung has also launched a Symbian-based music-dedicated consumer smartphone called the Samsung i450, available later this month.

Symbian - 47.9 per cent owned by Nokia - is the market leader in the provision of software to smartphones.
