SNW Europe: Fujitsu Siemens launches FibreCAT for SMEs
By Chris Green in Frankfurt,
Fujitsu Siemens has today announced two new storage products for the smaller enterprise, covering both tape back-up and disk storage.
The company has unveiled two new devices in its FibreCAT range - the SX88 disk storage device and the TX08 LTO-based tape system.
The latter represents an interesting move by Fujitsu Siemens, as the company moves away from the VXA tape platform in favour of the LTO-2 technology favoured by most of the industry. As well as shifting technologies, the 1U TX08 offers up to 6.4TB of tape storage, has two magazines and four slots, and can be equipped with with either an LTO-2 or 3 drive. It comes bundled with BrightStor ARC-serve back-up software.
"The products announced in the FibreCAT family are specially developed for mid-size companies and are not merely 'light' or cut-down versions of our existing enterprise devices," said Helmut Beck, vice president of storage at Fujitsu Siemens.
The SX88 disk device uses a 4GB/sec fibre channel connection, as well as redundant hot-swappable fans, power supplies and RAID controllers. It can scale to 42TB and is intended for applications such as databases, streaming media and large volume back-up.
The SX88 is available now with prices starting at €8,400 (£5,862), while the TX08 tape device will be available from November with prices starting at €3,700 (£2,582) depending on configuration.
