MoD spends £8 million on software

Ministry of Defence drops millions on contract with Infonic for SharePoint-improving software.

By Nicole Kobie, 7 Nov 2007 at 11:56

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a seven-year, £8.3 million contract with software firm Infonic.

Infonic will supply and maintain its Geo-Replication software for the Defence Information Infrastructure project, which is replacing diverse information systems and networks with a single platform across the MoD. The software will be used across 250 sites to help the MoD deploy, and improve the efficiency of, Microsoft SharePoint 2007.

Nearly half of the contract will come in the form of software, delivered in the next three months, with the remaining £4.2 million covering the costs of maintenance and services over the next seven years, Infonic said.

Mark Thompson, Infonic's chief executive, said the deal was a significant milestone for his company, and added: "We look forward to working with the customer to define additional opportunities within the project."
