    Banking sector wants IT grads

Despite recent troubles, most banking firms are planning to boost the number of IT grads they take on next year.

IT grads should have no trouble finding work in the financial sector, despite recent banking turbulence, according to a survey.

In a poll of 50 key UK companies by The IT Job Board, 94 per cent of respondents said their graduate hiring plans would not change despite troubles in the sector.

Just eight per cent expected to decrease the number of IT grads they hire from last year, while 56 per cent planned to increase their graduate hiring numbers, the survey found.

Alex Farrell, director of the IT Job Board Group, said: "The results of this survey confirm our beliefs that it's still a strong sector from an IT perspective, and graduates are still very much in demand."

Farrell added: "With the shortage of young people entering the IT industry, it is imperative that we keep a positive view of the employment outlook - especially within the banking sector."

A report earlier this year suggested more IT graduates are needed to keep up with the demands of the UK economy.
