EADS wins NATO networking contract
By Miya Knights,
NATO, the European and North American military alliance organisation, has outsourced the IT component of a project to implement a public access network in a deal worth €4.2 million euros (£3.15 million).
EADS Defence & Security announced late yesterday it won the contract to deliver key IT infrastructure to three NATO headquarters for 1,200 users. The contracting body is the Germany, who is acting as host nation for the NATO procurement "Project 24".
The project will extend the public access domains for the NATO headquarters in Germany and the Netherlands and provide a range of IT and networking hardware, including workstations, laptops, servers, a storage system and commercial software, plus full contractor support to install the system and deliver training.
The provider said strategic technology partnerships between HP, for its hardware and related service and Cisco, for networking components were a major contributor to the contract win.
Documents relating to ongoing work to modernise and centralise the NATO financial systems (NAFS) in order to comply with international accounting reporting standards also described Project 24 as key "in order for all NAFS sites to be centralised".
