London IT salaries gained last year

CV Screen reports salaries in the capital for IT professionals were up 4.3 per cent in 2007.

Salaries for London IT professionals grew by 4.3 per cent last year, at a higher rate than pay in the South East, according to analysis by recruitment firm CV Screen.

Now, the average salary for permanent IT workers in the capital is £38,577, the report said.

CV Screen reported last week that such salaries in the South East were up 3.4 per cent.

"There is obviously a premium attributed to working in London and the survey shows that salaries are 15 per cent higher than those in the rest of the South East region," said Alex Lawson, the agency's London account manager.

He added that demand in the capital's IT job market remains high. "Obviously many commentators are predicting the next 12 months to be more testing but the early signs are that the IT jobs market is holding up well," he said.

Indeed, a survey released last week showed demand for IT workers across the UK had hit a six-year high.
