Report claims iPhone sales fell short in the UK<br/>

Sales figures for Apple's iconic smartphone miss O2's reported targets for the first two months of sale, missing by 10,000.

OK, the UK network provider for the Apple iPhone in the UK connected 190,000 handsets in the first two months of sale, 10,000 less than it expected, according to a national newspaper report.

The Financial Times reported the figures, despite Apple and its network partners declining to officially reveal specific figures for the product.

Analysts who had guessed that Apple and its partners, O2 and Carphone Warehouse, might sell upwards of 300,000 handsets, suggested that Apple might now have to cut the £269 price.

Apple has declined to reveal UK iPhone sales, going as far as asking O2 and Carphone Warehouse not to reveal sales data. Last week Apple chief executive Steve Jobs revealed that four million iPhone handsets had been sold in the four countries where it is available.

O2 complied with Apple's request not to reveal figures locally, but would say that the iPhone was its fastest seller ever "by a significant margin".
