SAP and IBM plan first collaboration
By Miya Knights,
IBM has announced its first joint software developed project with SAP, codenamed 'Atlantic'.
Project Atlantic is aimed at integrating its Lotus Notes email and collaboration software with SAP Business Suite.
The first release is planned for sometime in the fourth quarter of 2008. It will include support for SAP workflows, reporting and analytics, and the use of roles from within the Lotus Notes client.
And further releases will extend Notes roles and capabilities within the SAP environment, while capitalising on the collaborative and offline functionality of both IBM's Notes and Domino platforms.
The aim is to increase user productivity and return on investment among those organisations using both packages, which is the majority of IBM's top 100 customers, the company claims.
Michael Rhodin, IBM Lotus Software general manager said: "Businesses are looking to find better ways to collaborate and manage their business processes. This IBM-SAP solution addresses both challenges in one seamless package."
IBM said both companies would sell the software, as well as offer customisation services through their direct and partner service channels.
The SAP news follows reports last week that software plug-ins for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch devices, allowing them to access Lotus Notes, are in the works.
