Kaspersky climbs on SaaS bandwagon
By Miya Knights,
Kaspersky, the security software provider, has today announced the availability of a hosted, software-as-a-service (SaaS) version of its endpoint security portfolio.
The Kaspersky Hosted Security Services can be deployed at around 30 per cent of the cost of procuring and administering an in-house email protection against viruses, Trojans, worms, spyware, rootkits, phishing, hacker attacks and spam according to the vendor.
And it said the SaaS delivery model would eliminate current and future threats carried via email by acting as an email firewall and preventing denial-of service (DoS) and directory harvest attacks on mail servers before they are able to infiltrate the corporate network.
Available as a standalone anti-spam service, or as a combination of both anti-spam and anti-virus, performance is also guaranteed by service level agreements (SLAs) and uses its antivirus engine, together with its proprietary BitHunt technology to protect against zero-hour threats.
Simon Geach, sales director for the UK and Ireland at Kaspersky Lab said the company was the SaaS offering to the UK market following its rollout in Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria and Russia.
Guenter Fuhrmann, director of Hosted Security Services Europe at Kaspersky Lab added: "Hosted services are increasingly popular amongst organisations of all sizes and this growth will continue. Offering such services is a natural progression in product development for Kaspersky Lab."
Analyst IDC estimates that the messaging security market will more than double from $2 billion (£1.02 billion) in 2006 to $4.8 billion (£2.5 billion) in 2011. Among the components of the market, which include software, appliance and hosted services, IDC predicts hosted services will be the fastest growing, underlining the potential benefits and growing mainstream acceptance of SaaS.
Kaspersky Lab is offering organisations with up to 250 users the opportunity to trial its Hosted Security Services free of charge until 21st April 2008. Those interested should email the vendor direct.
