Six Nations rugby to use BI tools
By Miya Knights,
The RBS Six Nations Championship has renewed its sponsorship agreement with business intelligence (BI) vendor SAS to provide vital analytical tools.
Throughout the 2008 championship and for the third tournament in a row, SAS will provide the BBC with on-screen analysis for all 15 matches, including breakdowns of vital information, such as the number of tackles made, scrums and line-outs won and lost, possession and penalties conceded.
The vendor will also provide a live data feed of match intelligence to the BBCi, so fans at home can access the same real time competitive intelligence through the broadcaster's interactive service.
The analytical capabilities will also enable the official pre and post-match data and analysis and graphical reports to be posted on the official RBS Six Nations Championship website immediately after each game and made available to participating unions and team coaches.
The data will also be sent to more than 300 journalists to provide the basis for post-match analysis articles in local, online, national and international press.
Dave Kavanagh, commercial manager of the RBS Six Nations Championship, said: "The data, analysis and insight provided by SAS for each and every game has proved priceless for us internally, as well as for external parties interested in the game, be they journalists or fans."
