MWC 2008: LG to jump on Android bandwagon
By Chris Green
,
Phone maker LG has confirmed it plans to release a phone based on Android, the smartphone operating system from Google.
"We will bring it out late in 2008 or early 2009," Chang Ma, LG's vice president for marketing strategy said at the Mobile World Congress show taking place in Barcelona this week.
LG is the latest of 30 companies that have announced plans for devices and applications based on Android, which is a Linux-derived operating system for mobile devices that Google acquired in 2005. Companies involved in Android development and hardware include Motorola, Samsung, HTC, Intel, eBay, Nuance and Broadcom.
