Palm Centro hits UK shores
By Benny Har-Even,
Palm has announced that its Centro smartphone is now available to pre-order on its UK online store.
Head over to the Palm Centro product page on the UK site, and you'll find two individuals clearly overjoyed with the fact that the Centro has finally hit the UK.
Coming in at £199, the Centro is designed to be an affordable entry-level smartphone that undercuts Palm's own Windows Mobile based Treo 500, which retails for £269. This was originally released exclusively on Vodafone , but is now available on other networks.
The Centro features a full keyboard, a 320 x 320 colour screen, measures 107 x 54 x 18 mm and weighs 119g. There's 64MB of internal storage and it sports a Micro SD slot for up to 4GB of additional memory. In Henry Ford style, you can have any colour as long as it's black. Expect to see a full review of the Centro on IT PRO in due course.
Palm is hoping an affordable smartphone will help it gain some much needed traction in a market where Blackberry and the iPhone are gaining all the headlines and sales. Last year, Palm admitted that its next generation operating system would not appear until 2009.
