Corsair announces high performance 16GB USB drive
By Benny Har-Even,
Memory specialist Corsair has announced a 16GB flash memory drive that it claims is four times faster than standard drives on the market.
The Flash Voyager GT will debut at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany next week. Corsair says the new drive employs hand-selected NAND flash chips and an advanced flash controller technology to achieve its fast speeds.
Corsair says that 1.63GB of data will transfer in 98 seconds, compared to 358 for a standard key, while 279MB will transfer over in 24 seconds compared to 70 seconds.
The drive comes preloaded with TrueCrypt software with AES 256-bit encryption and the warranty is a healthy 10 years.
"Corsair's 16GB Flash Voyager GT is a perfect fit for businesses looking for a fast and effective portable backup solution, and the high capacity also makes it ideal for running portable Linux distributions," said Gareth Ogden, technical marketing and applications specialist, North Europe
"In addition, the proprietary shock and water resistant rubber case, coupled with the bundled TrueCrypt open-source security software, which provides AES 256-bit encryption, also means that critical data is kept secure and protected," added Ogden.
The Flash Voyager GT 16GB will be available shortly for an MSRP of £55 excluding VAT.
