Applications for IT jobs jump 17 per cent
By Nicole Kobie,
The number of applications for IT work has jumped by 17 per cent this year, according to recruitment firm CV Screen.
The rise is across the first two months of 2008 compared to the end of 2007.
Matthew Iveson of CV Screen said the number of jobs advertised had also risen. "We've not only noticed an increase in the number of applicants but also in the number of new IT vacancies being registered," he said.
He said that the growing number of applications suggests that confidence is high in the technology industry, despite pervasive fears of an economic slowdown since the credit crunch hit.
"Despite fears surrounding the credit crunch, CV Screen registered a record number of IT Jobs in February which is testament to our success and also a sign that the market is still buoyant in the early months of 2008," said Iveson.
A survey released earlier this year showed that demand for IT workers was at a six year high, spurred by increased investment in corporate IT despite a reported looming slowdown.
