Commerce Bank dumps paper-based HR
By Chris Green in Las Vegas,
The process of hiring staff into a large organisation is seldom a simple process, and often grows into a complex and bureaucratic operation that is both slow and expensive.
This was the case at Commerce Bank, a growing banking organisation that has taken steps to overhaul its human resources (HR) processes, bringing in much needed computerisation in the form of software from Lawson to overhaul its hiring process.
"Before we deployed the Lawson suite, our talent management and staff acquisition was all done through paper-based processes, we had thousands of files, and it was not an efficient process," said Jo-Anna Rubin-Berman, vice president of human resources at Commerce Bank while speaking at Lawson's user conference in Las Vegas.
Commerce Bank was among three companies unveiled as launch users of Lawson Software's Human Capital Management (HCM) suite. The bank is using the Talent Management element of HCM to modernise the process of hiring staff into the organisation, with it cutting the cost of acquiring personnel and shortening the time it takes to complete the hiring and training process.
"Lawson Talent Management gives us the tools to be more effective in recruiting and retaining top talent," added Rubin-Berman.
In addition to helping the bank eliminate manual paper-based processes, Lawson HCM provides integration with so-called Web 2.0 sites and services to make it easier to promote positions and attract potential recruits. For example, the bank can use built-in integration with Facebook to operate a referral system for existing staff to advertise and help recruit new staff, using the social networking site as a notice board for vacancies.
The suite also supports staff management and recruitment across multiple countries, allowing for local employment law and requirements to be applied and managed within a single application.
"Businesses are demanding new and innovative ways to access the employment market and to deal with human capital management," said Larry Dunivan, vice president of global human capital management products at Lawson.
"Organisations need good information about staff and potential candidates and clear processes for managing talent acquisition to support their business objectives, and that is what we are delivering with the suite," he said.
Other launch users of Lawson HCM include Sitel, the global outsourced service provider and call centre operator which has operations throughout the UK, and Manitou, the French manufacturer of forklift trucks.
