Fujitsu launches fast drives for laptops
By Nicole Kobie,
Fujitsu has announced a new series of fast, big hard disk drives designed specifically for high-performance laptop and small form-factor desktop computers.
The MHZ2 BJ series is a 7200 RPM drive with storage capacity of 320 GB - double the company's last 2.5inch model - and the first with that capacity and form factor to run at that speed, Fujitsu said.
But the firm hasn't done this at a cost to energy efficiency. The series will only need 2.3 watts of power for read and write operations, which Fujitsu said makes it one of the most efficient in its class. The hard drive series is being touted under the firm's Green Policy Innovation initiative, which looks to offer customers products with a less damaging environmental impact.
The series goes on sale in June, with Fujitsu expecting sales of two million this fiscal year. Pricing details are not yet available, a Fujitsu spokeswoman said. Full specifications are available here.
