Tommy Hilfiger outsources European network
By Miya Knights,
Tommy Hilfiger has announced a three-year contract with BT Expedite for wide area network (WAN) services to its 90 stores.
The deal, for an undisclosed sum, is the first step in the fashion retailer's strategy to improve the services to, and the communications with, its European stores across the UK, Netherlands, Germany and France. It will replace its existing dial-in infrastructure with a new network solution that would allow them to install and run new applications on their systems.
BT's retail specialist division Expedite will provide an internet protocol (IP) based network that offers the necessary flexibility to introduce new applications to improve efficiency both in-store and across the retail enterprise.
"We were looking for an extremely reliable network which would offer the necessary coverage and flexibility to support our expansion. Our decision [to go] for BT was mainly based on the consistent offering across multiple countries and the service levels it is able to provide," said Mike Day, Tommy Hilfiger's operations and IT senior vice president.
The contract includes an extremely reliable multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) platform, digital subscriber line (xDSL) and IPsec, a suite of protocols for securing IP communications.
