New network to support YO!Sushi's growth
By Miya Knights,
YO!Sushi is predicting a two-year payback for its new next-generation network that it is confident will support the company's ambitious plans of growing to 100 restaurants by 2010.
Based on the concept of a Japanese 'kaiten' sushi bar, YO!Sushi now operates 41 restaurants in five countries and has updated its networking capabilities by signing up to a multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) internet protocol-based virtual private network (IP VPN) operated by managed service provider, NetworkFlow.
YO!Sushi IT manager Billy Waters said the service offered the chain value for money. "NetworkFlow's MPLS solution offers us twice the product for half the price," he said.
"There were a few drivers for choosing it: firstly, our previous infrastructure - a pseudo-leased line over copper - was close to capacity and secondly, we wanted to more effectively link all of our internal voice requirements for the restaurants," added Waters.
"Above all though, it means that we have a one stop shop - it sounds clichéd but it means we no longer have to deal with BT, an ISP [internet service provider], a router company etc. Just cancelling the BT lines for internal calls alone has saved us huge amounts of money, and we're expecting a payback overall of two years which is excellent."
David Alexander, commercial director of comments: "For a multi-site company like YO!Sushi, an MPLS is the perfect solution. It not only reduces cost and complexity, but it gives them control."
UK voice and data consultancy, GP Network Solutions worked with NetworkFlow to handle all of the hardware configuration for the telephony and integration onto its MPLS core.
