Caffè Nero completes BT hotspot roll out

The coffee chain says its service will help to capitalise on the one in four workers who regularly escape the office to work in coffee shops, according to BT business research.

Caffè Nero has announced that BT Openzone hotspots have gone live across its stores nationwide.

BT is offering its branded pay-as-you-go or subscription-based Wi-Fi service across the coffee shop chain's 330-plus stores.

And the deal adds to BT's network of over 2,500 hotspots at airports, railway stations, hotel chains and marinas. And the service is open to BT Openzone, BT FON, BT Office Anywhere and BT Fusion or casual users.

The telecoms provider used the deal to highlight findings of new survey of 1,000 members of its BT Business Panel, as carried out by ICM Research. It found one in four office workers (26 per cent) work in coffee shops each week.

In a sign that business is becoming increasingly mobile, nearly half of respondents (47 per cent) had worked in a coffee shop because they were travelling. A similar number (44 per cent) said coffee shop working provided a more informal business setting. And a lack of office space was the main reason for decamping to use coffee shop Wi-Fi for nearly one in five (18 per cent).

One in ten (11 per cent) workers also use these alternative meeting places as an opportunity to keep costs low by having an office extension close at hand.

Jonathan Hart, Caffè Nero managing director commented: "This research confirms a trend we see everyday as more office staff come into our stores to work. To make Caffé Nero even more 'work friendly' we have partnered with BT Openzone to offer Wi-Fi in all our stores."
